How do I uninstall Moonfade when Device Admin is active?
Remove Moonfade’s Device Admin access before uninstalling, and understand what happens to local settings and your Google Play purchase record.
Remove Moonfade’s Device Admin access before uninstalling the app. The documented route is to open Moonfade Settings and turn off Turn off the screen; Moonfade removes its administrator permission when you do. If you cannot open Moonfade, remove it from Android’s device-administrator settings before uninstalling. The Moonfade product FAQ describes both routes.
The important distinction is between removing a screen-lock permission, removing the app, and removing its local preferences. They are related actions, but a Google Play purchase record is separate from those local preferences.
Before you remove the app
If a timer is active, finish or stop that timer first so you are not trying to manage a countdown while changing permissions. Check your media player separately if you also want to end listening. Ending a Moonfade timer should not be treated as proof that another app’s playback has paused.
Then decide whether you want to keep a personal note of your preferred setup. You might record the durations you commonly choose, your fade length, or your preferred appearance. This is a manual reference for yourself, not an export or backup feature. Do not expect those settings to reappear automatically after reinstalling.
There is no need to share timer preferences, account passwords, or payment details to carry out an uninstall. If your reason for leaving is a playback problem, you can choose whether to contact support before removing the app; an uninstall does not require explaining that decision.
Remove access inside Moonfade
Follow this sequence when the app still opens:
- Open Settings in Moonfade.
- Turn off Turn off the screen.
- After administrator access has been removed, use your device’s ordinary app-uninstallation process.
These are the steps in Moonfade’s screen-lock support instructions. The permission exists so Moonfade can turn off and lock the display when a timer ends. Removing it is a permission change; uninstalling is the separate step that removes the application.
If your goal is only to review or remove administrator access, follow the permission-removal guide and keep uninstalling as a separate decision.
Avoid starting another timer between removing access and uninstalling. The current version requires Device Admin activation before a timer can start, so starting another timer asks for that activation again. Turning the screen-lock setting off should not be interpreted as a way to keep starting timers without administrator activation.
If Moonfade cannot open
Use Android’s device-administrator settings to remove Moonfade’s access, then uninstall the app. Settings names and locations can differ across phones and Android versions, so a single exact menu path would be misleading.
Look for the administrator entry for Moonfade rather than changing unrelated administrator permissions. If you cannot locate the setting, consult help for your actual phone or explain the problem to Moonfade support. Useful details include your phone model, Android version, and what you see when trying to uninstall. A screenshot can help you describe the situation, but remove any personal information before sharing it.
What happens to settings and Pro?
The Moonfade Privacy Policy says uninstalling or clearing app data removes local app information. Moonfade’s Android backup and device transfer are disabled, so a different installation does not receive your old timer preferences, presets, themes, or fade choices automatically.
An eligible Pro purchase recorded by Google Play is separate. If you reinstall later, use the Google Play account that made the purchase and follow Restore purchase from the Moonfade Pro screen. Restoring purchase eligibility should not be confused with restoring your previous timer configuration.
If you choose to return, use the routine Pro-restoration guide for that separate eligible-purchase check.
If Pro remains unavailable, the support page asks for a Google Play order ID. Never send card details, bank information, passwords, or authentication codes with a support request.
Two common questions
Can I just remove the permission and keep the app? Yes, removing access and uninstalling are separate decisions. Remember that starting another timer in the current version requires activating Device Admin again.
Do I have to reinstall after uninstalling? No. Reinstallation is only relevant if you later choose to use Moonfade again. Keep your preference notes for that possibility rather than assuming automatic recovery.
If you return to the app later, get Moonfade on Google Play, review its permission request, and rebuild the timer preferences you actually want to use.
