What should I check if restoring Moonfade Pro does not work?
If Moonfade Pro stays unavailable, confirm the purchasing account in the Play Store, use Restore purchase on the Pro screen, and record the returned message for support.
If Restore purchase on the Moonfade Pro screen does not bring Pro back, check two things first: that you used the Pro screen's Restore purchase action, and that the Google Play account signed in on the device is the same account that bought Pro. Restoring is a Google Play entitlement lookup, not a settings restore. Official product overview.
These checks do not establish the cause of every restore problem. Clearing app data or uninstalling removes local Moonfade settings, but it does not remove a purchase recorded by Google Play — the purchase is tied to the Google account, not to the installation.
Step 1: Use the Pro screen, not settings or the timer
Open Moonfade, go to the Moonfade Pro screen, and use Restore purchase. This is the supported path for an eligible Pro purchase. It checks the purchase information returned by Google Play and makes Pro available when an eligible purchase is found. Follow the routine Pro-restoration guide for the supported route.
Do not expect local settings to bring Pro back. Timer durations, presets, themes, and fade choices are stored locally and are removed by clearing app data or uninstalling. Android backup and device transfer are disabled for Moonfade, so those local values do not move to a different installation. The purchase is separate from all of that.
Step 2: Confirm the Google Play account
Pro is attached to the Google Play account that bought it. On a phone with multiple accounts, the device may be signed into a different one than the account used to purchase.
- Open the Play Store and check its selected Google account against the account that bought Pro. Use the purchase history or receipt to identify the purchasing account if needed; Android menu names can vary.
- If it differs, switch the Play Store to the purchasing account, then return to Moonfade’s Pro screen and choose Restore purchase again.
- The Moonfade Pro screen provides the restoration action and account-switch guidance; it does not display the purchasing account. Do not open a new purchase flow just to identify an account.
The in-app guidance says to reinstall if needed after switching the Play Store account. Treat reinstallation as a separate decision: it removes local preferences, so keep a reference first. It does not remove a Google Play purchase, and it is not a guaranteed fix for every restore issue.
Step 3: Separate a lost setting from a lost purchase
These two failures look similar but have different causes:
- A setting is gone. Clearing app data, reinstalling, or moving to a new phone removes local preferences. That is expected and unrelated to Pro.
- Pro is not unlocked. The purchase is recorded by Google Play. Clearing local data does not remove that record; use the purchasing account and Restore purchase to check whether an eligible unlock is returned.
Because of that split, do not try to fix a restore problem by clearing app data again. That only erases more local configuration. Restore first, then rebuild settings.
Step 4: Check eligible Pro benefits appear
A successful restore is visible in the Pro-only features: no ads, five editable presets, the home-screen timer widget, four additional night themes, and the Gentle Start and Late Drop fade curves. If Pro still appears unavailable, record the message shown rather than assuming the reason from a missing feature alone:
- Pro purchase restored. Check the expected Pro feature; recreate lost local preferences separately.
- No Pro purchase found for this Play account. Recheck the selected Play Store account against the purchase record.
- Couldn’t check purchases. Try restore again. The check did not complete; retry the restoration action and note if the message persists.
- Google Play billing is unavailable. Try again. Record the unavailable-billing message; it is not proof that the purchase was deleted.
Note which Pro item you expected and the exact returned message for support.
Step 5: Contact support with the safe details only
If Restore purchase still fails on the purchasing account, contact Moonfade support. Send:
- The Google Play order ID for the Pro purchase. You can find it in your Google Play purchase history or the email receipt.
- A short description of what happened when you tried to restore.
- Your Android version and phone model, which help describe the environment.
Never send card numbers, bank details, passwords, or authentication codes. Moonfade does not receive or store card or bank details, and Google Play processes payment information. Support needs the order ID to look up the record, not your payment credentials.
What not to do next
- Do not assume Pro is permanently lost because the app shows the free version. The purchase lives in Google Play, and the working path is the right account plus Restore purchase.
- Do not uninstall and reinstall as a repeat strategy. Uninstalling removes more local settings without changing the Play-recorded purchase.
- Do not switch the device's whole Google account without checking which account owns other content you need — just confirm the purchasing account is the one restoring Pro.
A short verification after restoring
Once Pro is back, run one short timer to confirm the timer itself still works the way you expect. Start playback in your media app, choose a 1-minute duration in Moonfade, tap Start, and complete the prompted Android Device Admin activation so the countdown can begin. With Stop audio & video enabled, countdown completion begins the configured 0–60-second fade, followed by the audio-focus request to pause playback. Whether your player pauses depends on the media app and device, so test with your usual player rather than assuming universal behavior.
If you previously lost settings, rebuild the durations and fade choice you actually use. If you are setting up a new phone, see settings and Pro on a new phone and where Moonfade stores local settings.
FAQ
Does clearing app data cancel my Pro purchase? No. Clearing app data removes local timer and personalization settings, but it does not remove a purchase recorded by Google Play. Restore it with the account that bought it.
Can I restore Pro without a Moonfade account? Yes. No Moonfade account is required. Restoration works through Google Play using the purchasing Google account.
Why does Pro not appear on my new phone even though I bought it? A different selected Play Store account is one thing to check, but the unavailable feature alone does not establish the cause. Confirm the purchasing account in the Play Store, use Restore purchase on the Moonfade Pro screen, and record any returned message for support.
Is Pro a subscription that has to be renewed? No. Moonfade Pro is an optional one-time Google Play purchase, not a subscription.
Get Moonfade on Google Play, open the Pro screen with the Google Play account that bought Pro, and use Restore purchase. If it still does not work, note the order ID from your Play purchase history and describe exactly what the app showed when restoration failed.
