Why does my media keep playing after a Moonfade timer ends?
If media keeps playing, check the countdown and fade first, then Stop audio & video and the player’s response to the pause request.
If your media keeps playing after a Moonfade countdown, first check whether the separate fade interval has finished. Then confirm Stop audio & video is enabled and inspect the player's playback state. Moonfade can reduce media volume and request playback to pause, but the player and Android device determine the response.
The Moonfade feature description places a 0–60-second fade after the countdown. Hearing audio just as the countdown ends can therefore be expected during a positive fade interval. Continued progress after that interval is a different observation and deserves a settings check and a short repeat test.
Identify what you mean by “keeps playing”
Describe the result precisely before changing anything. Are you hearing audio at normal volume, hearing a gradual reduction, or seeing progress continue even though the sound is quiet? Each observation points to a different stage of the ending.
A quiet player that still advances has not necessarily paused. Likewise, a dark or locked display does not prove the media stopped. Screen lock is a separate result of Moonfade's display controls, so keep the volume, playback state, and display outcome separate in your notes.
If you were checking exactly at countdown zero, wait through the fade value you selected. For example, a 30-second fade begins after the countdown completes; it is additional ending time rather than the last 30 seconds of the countdown.
Check Stop audio & video
Open Moonfade Settings and verify that Stop audio & video is enabled. Moonfade Support recommends this first when playback does not stop as expected, followed by another test with the media app you use.
Treat this as a check of the intended ending behavior, not a compatibility guarantee. Enabling the setting allows the playback-ending request, but it does not prove the receiving player will pause on your particular phone.
Also read the fade duration rather than relying on memory. A changed fade value can explain why an ending takes longer than you expected to observe, even though the selected countdown itself was correct.
Understand the request and the response
Moonfade lowers the Android media-volume stream and requests audio focus as part of its ending. Android's audio-focus documentation describes how focus requests and changes coordinate audio playback. Responses can depend on Android versions and the way a player is implemented.
This means a timer reaching its end and a player pausing are different events. The timer can finish its own sequence while the media app reacts in a way you did not expect. Keep your conclusion specific to the player and phone you tested.
It also explains why changing media apps calls for a fresh check. A result you observed with one player does not establish how another player will react, even if you use the same countdown and fade on the same phone.
Repeat a controlled short test
Start playback in your usual media app and confirm it is audible. Select a short Moonfade countdown and a fade value you can record. The current version requires Device Admin activation before starting; tap Start and complete that prompt before the countdown can begin, then let the original countdown finish without changing it.
Record these observations separately:
- The countdown reaches its end, followed by the selected fade interval.
- Media volume changes during that ending, if you can observe it.
- After the fade and playback request, the player pauses or continues advancing.
- The display turns off and locks, if that ending is active.
Check the screen-lock result separately from media volume and playback state.
Repeating the same setup makes it easier to tell whether the first observation was simply too early or whether the player consistently continues after the request.
Follow the player-response test for a repeatable run and a record of each outcome.
Use the result to choose your next step
If the player continues, use its own controls to pause the current session rather than assuming quiet audio has stopped. If you contact support, include the Android version, phone model, media app, chosen countdown, fade length, and the separate observed outcomes.
Use the playback support checklist to prepare the settings and observations, then send them through Moonfade support. That report helps distinguish a timing misunderstanding from a playback-response issue. Avoid changing multiple unrelated phone settings merely because one player did not pause; begin with the documented Moonfade setting and an observable retest.
Get Moonfade on Google Play, check Stop audio & video, and run a short timer with your actual player before relying on a longer playback ending.
