Moonfade Pro's home-screen widget is useful when you want to start a familiar timer without reopening the app. Its compact view offers a duration and Start, its expanded view offers five preset durations, and a running timer shows a countdown, end time, and Stop. Complete screen-lock setup inside Moonfade before relying on the widget for display lock. Moonfade product page.

Choose the widget layout for your routine

The available layout depends on the space provided by your Android launcher:

  • Compact, idle: shows the last timer duration and Start.
  • Expanded, idle: shows five preset durations; select one to start that timer. Pro's edited preset durations can be used here.
  • Running: shows the countdown, end time, and Stop. Stop ends the timer; check your media player separately rather than assuming cancellation pauses it.

The widget also offers access to the app. Adding and resizing widgets are launcher actions, so the exact placement steps can vary by device. See editable presets versus built-in presets for choosing reusable durations.

Complete screen-lock setup in the app first

Inside Moonfade, tap Start and complete any prompted Device Admin activation before the countdown begins. Device Admin lets Moonfade turn off and lock the display when time is up; it is separate from requesting a media pause.

Widget start is a separate action and does not repeat that in-app permission-prompt flow. It does not grant Device Admin access. Set up and test screen lock inside the app first, then use the widget for a timer whose ending you have checked. If you remove screen-lock access, do not assume a widget start restores it or that the display will lock.

To remove the permission before uninstalling, turn off Turn off the screen in Moonfade Settings. If you keep using the app, its next in-app Start asks for activation again. See Device Admin before a timer and screen lock at the ending.

Keep timer completion and player pause separate

The widget does not change the timer's ending. With Stop audio & video enabled, a 0–60-second media-volume fade follows countdown completion, then Moonfade requests playback to pause. Whether your player pauses depends on the media app and Android device.

Run a short test with the actual player and output you use. Observe the countdown, volume change, playback state, and screen lock separately. A successful test is evidence about that setup rather than a guarantee for every app or background condition. The media-player test and countdown/fade guide explain the checks.

When a timer is active, its notification also lets you add time, subtract time, or stop it without reopening Moonfade. Do not assume the home-screen widget supplies those add/subtract actions merely because the notification does.

Is the widget worth upgrading for?

The widget is part of the optional one-time Google Play purchase for Moonfade Pro. Pro also removes ads and unlocks five editable presets, four additional night themes, and Gentle Start and Late Drop fade curves. The free app still offers the duration dial and five built-in presets of 15, 30, 45, 60, and 90 minutes.

If starting a familiar duration from the home screen solves a recurring inconvenience, the widget may be useful. If choosing durations is the main task, evaluate editable presets too. Neither feature guarantees media compatibility or background behavior.

Local settings are removed by clearing app data or uninstalling, and Android backup and device transfer are disabled. Restoring an eligible Pro purchase with the purchasing Google Play account is separate from recreating those settings. See restore Pro.

Get Moonfade on Google Play, complete screen-lock setup and a short timer test inside the app, then try the widget with your usual player if you have Pro.
