Do I need a Moonfade account to use a sleep timer?

Moonfade requires no customer account. Understand how that differs from a Google Play purchase account, locally stored timer settings, and advertising services.

Moonfade timer arc fading into a crescent moon over a quiet night landscape

You do not need a Moonfade account to use its Android sleep timer. That means there is no separate Moonfade customer sign-in to create before using the timer. It does not mean Google Play purchases or advertising services operate without their own account and information handling, and it does not turn local settings into a cloud account.

What no Moonfade account means for setup

The Moonfade product guide describes a practical setup: start media in the player you want to use, open Moonfade, choose a duration, and start the timer. There is no Moonfade account-creation step in that workflow.

The current version does require Android Device Admin activation before you can start a timer. That is permission for turning off and locking the display, not a customer account. Keep this distinction clear when you see a setup prompt: a device permission request and a sign-in request solve different problems.

Enable Stop audio & video in Settings for the playback ending. The media-volume fade lasts 0–60 seconds after the countdown, followed by a request to pause playback. Test a short timer with your actual player because the pause response can vary with the app and device.

A Google Play purchase account is a separate matter

Moonfade Pro is an optional one-time Google Play purchase. If you choose it, Google Play handles the transaction. The account that made that purchase is relevant when restoring an eligible unlock later.

The official restoration instructions say to use the purchasing Google Play account, open Moonfade's Pro screen, and choose Restore purchase. You do not create a Moonfade account to replace that store-account relationship.

If you reinstall or move to a new phone, remember which Google Play account made the purchase. The absence of Moonfade sign-in does not imply that you can restore a purchase under any other account. Ask support if the supported restoration flow leaves Pro unavailable.

Local settings are different from an account profile

Moonfade stores timer settings, presets, theme, and fade choices on the device. The privacy policy explains that timer and customization settings are not sent to a server operated by the developer. It also states that Android backup and device transfer are disabled for the app.

Consequently, your preferences are not a Moonfade account profile that follows you between installations. Clearing data, uninstalling, or setting up another installation means you should expect to configure those local choices again.

Keep a simple personal note of the durations and customization you want to recreate if you are preparing for a reset or phone change. That is your own reference; it should not be described as an in-app export, synchronization, or backup feature.

For storage and reset consequences, see where Moonfade stores local settings.

Optional usage results are a separate choice

Moonfade 1.0.1 also has a separate Share anonymous usage results setting, off by default and not required for a timer. It sends coarse usage and request-outcome categories only after opt-in; it excludes timer duration, player names, listening history and persistent installation/account identifiers. A recorded request outcome does not establish actual playback pause or physical screen lock. See the privacy policy’s optional app usage measurement disclosure for the data, retention and choices. This option is separate from advertising consent.

Avoid a blanket privacy conclusion

No customer account is a narrow product fact, not a statement that no information is processed. The free version may display ads through Google Mobile Ads, and advertising and consent services may process data. Google Play also processes purchases and Moonfade receives purchase information used for the unlock.

The privacy policy describes those categories separately. Read the purchase section for a Pro question and the advertising section for a consent question rather than assuming one account fact settles both.

The no-account and advertising guide explains that separate ad-processing flow.

Where applicable and available, Moonfade offers Privacy choices in Settings to review relevant advertising choices. The support page explains that option without presenting a universal result for every reader or region.

Do I need a Moonfade password?

No Moonfade account is required, so there is no customer password to create for the timer. Do not send store-account passwords or authentication codes to support.

Will my preferences follow my Google Play account?

The supported purchase-restoration flow concerns an eligible Pro unlock. Local timer settings do not transfer through a Moonfade account or the app's disabled Android backup and transfer mechanisms.

Get Moonfade on Google Play and start with a short timer test; review the privacy policy separately for the services relevant to how you use the app.
