How do I extend an active Moonfade timer from its notification?

Use Moonfade’s notification to add time to a running countdown, check the updated duration, and keep the post-countdown fade separate.

To extend a running Moonfade timer, use the add-time action in its active notification and check the revised countdown. You can do this without reopening the app: Moonfade’s feature guide lists adding time, subtracting time, and stopping the timer as notification controls. The public guide does not specify a universal button label or fixed adjustment amount, so follow the controls shown on your device.

Adding time is useful when your original stopping point changes. Perhaps you want a little more of a podcast or a longer music session. Decide how much additional listening you want, then verify the actual change rather than tapping repeatedly without looking.

Find the active timer notification

Android’s notification area is the place to look for the running timer. Google’s Android notification help explains opening notifications by swiping down and expanding a notification when needed to reveal its actions. Presentation and available settings vary with the Android version and device.

Identify Moonfade’s active timer notification before choosing an action. Do not assume a notification from your media player adjusts Moonfade’s countdown. One belongs to the playback app; the other belongs to the timer managing your intended ending.

If you cannot see Moonfade’s notification or its actions, pause this adjustment task and check the app. Use the missing-notification guide to check the timer and its notification; repeated actions on an unrelated notification will not help you confirm the timer.

Add time deliberately

Use this simple sequence while the countdown is still running:

  1. Read the remaining time shown for the Moonfade timer.
  2. Decide whether you need an extension rather than a completely different listening plan.
  3. Use the notification’s add-time action.
  4. Check the updated countdown before making another adjustment.

This last check matters because the documented feature is the ability to add time, not a published promise about exactly how much each action adds. It also keeps your intended endpoint visible. A small extension can become a much longer session if you repeat an action without checking the result.

If the new countdown does not match what you expected, note what changed. Avoid assuming a second tap will reverse the first. For an earlier normal ending, use the subtract-time guide. To cancel the countdown, use the active-timer stop guide. Choose by the intended result and check the actual countdown.

Understand the revised ending

The added time changes the countdown you are waiting for. It does not turn the fade into part of that countdown. With Stop audio & video enabled, countdown completion starts the configured 0–60-second media-volume fade, followed by an audio-focus request to pause playback. Moonfade then separately requests display lock when Turn off the screen is enabled. Disabling Stop audio & video skips both fade and audio focus. These requests do not prove that the player paused or the physical display locked.

For planning, think in two stages: the remaining countdown, then the selected ending. If you are trying to stop at a particular point in a recording, allow for the fade you have chosen and check the player’s actual behavior. A countdown display is not a verified playback-position display for the podcast, music, or audiobook app.

Make extensions before expiry. Do not rely on an add-time action to restart a completed countdown or cancel a fade that has already begun; those behaviors are not established by the public instructions.

Keep the playback check separate

An extension gives you more timer time, not new evidence about compatibility. Moonfade Support explains that media apps and Android devices can respond differently to its media-volume changes and audio-focus request. Check Stop audio & video in Settings and use a short test with your usual player before relying on a long session.

When setting up a new timer, tap Start and complete Device Admin activation when prompted before the countdown can begin. This activation is required in the current release. The notification is a convenient way to adjust an already active timer; it is not a way to bypass that activation.

Practical questions

Will adding time move an episode boundary? It adjusts Moonfade’s countdown. It does not establish episode detection or tell the timer where a recording ends.

Should I keep adding time until playback pauses? No. If the countdown has finished but media continues, investigate the ending and player response. Extending a timer and diagnosing playback are different tasks.

Get Moonfade on Google Play and practice one deliberate add-time adjustment during a short test, checking the countdown before and after the action.
